So we have been in for 30 days now!
Everything is great! We are very glad to have our stuff back and out of storage, and also very happy to have our own space again (though we are immensely grateful to our family for letting us live with them for the past six months!).
We are just working on our 30 day Tarion list and trying not to miss anything! There are not too many others that have closed and moved in yet, but we expect there will be a bunch more by springtime.
We are having fun exploring the Pickering area, and trying out new places :) Just last night we checked out Paul Wong's - a Chinese restaurant in the west end of Pickering. http://www.paulwongs.com/ It was very good!
We have also been scouting out gyms in the area, and trying to decide where we want to sign up. So far we have gone to the Pickering Recreation Complex, and we will be heading to Good Life (Next to Loblaws on Liverpool) in the next few days.
We have not experienced any major issues with the construction of the house, and overall we are very impressed. Now to clean-up the house so I can take some pics for my next post! We are also still happy with all of our material picks, which is a good thing because they would be hard to change now!
Pics coming soon!

Appliances!
Finally, back to blogging about living in Seaton!
We have picked out and purchased all of our appliances from Goemans in Oakville http://www.goemans.com/. We did some research and decided early on to go with all of our appliances from Samsung.
We had previously had a glass top electric range and were less than impressed with the inconsistent heat from the stove top. So we knew that we wanted to try something different this time around. We were divided between a gas range and an induction range, when we started thinking about what we wanted. I really do prefer to have all matching appliances, so when we decided to go all Samsung the stove was decided as they don't make a gas range. They do carry two models for induction ranges, a hybrid model that is part electric and a full induction model. Given our previous concerns about electric, we chose to go with the full induction. http://bit.ly/A4CJWR
For our fridge, we originally chose a large french door model....but recently decided to go with the counter depth model after seeing the space in our kitchen in person. So we are going with the 22.5 counter depth fridge with water and ice in the door. http://bit.ly/wr0XQ5
We did the 2.0 cf over the range microwave...we like the different layout of this one, with the controls on the bottom. We also liked the higher CFM that this one had (400).

For our dishwasher, our musts were that it have a steel tub and at least two sprayers. This one worked well and actually had three sprayers, so we were sold!

We went with the Steam Team (lol) for our washer and dryer. They had a newer model out, that had a foam feature...but we didn't see the need. Ours are actually grey (or what samsung refers to as stratus grey...).

Newly Approved Detached Homes Released
Mattamy has now released most of the homes that were switched from townhomes to detached homes. They are starting at $314,900, and I think since the release on April 30 there are still 4 or 5 lots remaining. If you are interested, go check them out soon! There were 2 staggered release dates, see below...

Future Release of Detached Homes
Mattamy obtained the official go ahead from the City of Pickering (despite some very vocal council members being against the proposal) to change the future release of townhomes to detached homes. And apparently there is already a waiting list for the new release. This has to be good news for both current townhome and detached owners! I am thinking that Mattamy will do the new release in May, as they have a history of May openings, the first release was in May and their year end is around that time. Should be interesting to see what happens :)

Our Address....maybe?
One of the Seaton Forum members already had their upgrades meeting and mentioned that their address was on the upgrades documents. For some strange reason the address numbers are in the thousands. Another forum member deduced that we might be lucky number 1855 Liatriss Drive :) Wonder what the reasoning was behind the numbers...? We'll just have to wait till the info is on Canada Post to confirm.
Upgrades Meeting!
We have our muchly anticipated upgrades meeting on Monday :) I have been researching and preparing for months, so it should be good!
We are planning to do a lot of upgrades because we don't want too many projects afterwards. Just the typical hardwood floors, granite counters & backsplash and finished basement will be on our list for the future. The upgrade that we are most excited about is the maple hardwood stairs, they are going to be beautiful! We are doing a dark sambuca stain, high maintenance but worth it!
We were in Oshawa today and accidentally stumbled upon a Cartier Kitchens location, just happened to be in the same plaza as the timmies we went to. They are the supplier for our development's cabinets. So we were able to see a bunch of the different options that they offer, it was really cool :)
Can't wait for Monday!

New Bloggee & Site Update
I'm Christine827 and I'll be joining Alan in contributing to the Moving into Mattamy Seaton Creekside blog.
Me and my husband Taj, are current Mattamy owners in the Stouffville "Wheler's on Main" development. This (Seaton) will be our second home with Mattamy, and we are excited to be going through the new home experience all over again! From spending hours upon hours signing our lives away at purchase time to putting the key in the front door, I'll try to share as much as I can :)
First off, welcome and congratulations to all of you that have bought a home in the new development! The first closings are scheduled for October 2011, so we should start seeing some real construction progress this spring/summer.

Mattamy Tries to Impress the Judges Again

I'll try to post them up soon as they appear online and find out what's new this time around but the bigger question will be, if anyone cares anymore?!

Progress...

The lack of posts since July 22nd is because of the lack of news coming out of Pickering. After council had rejected Mattamy's plans for being "not good enough," they came to the understanding that they would re-evaluate everything after all of the builders' proposals were ready. They would prefer to evaluate plans on the whole rather than individually moving forward...
Well...things seem to be going on somewhere, someplace and at sometime....but at the moment I have nothing to share with y'all.
I've started to look into the re-sale market once again and may opt for something else. I will continue however, to follow the progress on the Seaton project and evaluate for myself which decision may be best.
